Important information

Beyond the opening hours of the Diagnostic Laboratory of the Department, the samples can be deposited at the Emergency Service of the Internal Medicine Department which works around the clock.
Results can be reported based on request by mail, fax, phone or by email.
The results of the cytological examinations are provided within two days, while the results of the histopathological investigations within five days.
The PCR investigations cover a very wide spectrum of etiological agents. They are suitable for the demonstrations of viral pathogens of several animal species (dogs, cats, pigs, poultry, horses, bovines, bees etc.). At request, we can extend our investigations on pathogens that are not yet readily demonstrated at our department.
The result of the serological investigations is provided in a maximum of five days in case of the ELISA tests, and in two weeks in case of virus neutralizations.

Complementary tests

  • Serology
  • Virus neutralization test:
  • Bovine adenovirus, IBR, BVD, PI 3, RS, Equine herpesvirus (EHV 1-4), EHV 2, equine arteritis:

positive/negative test
titration

  • FIP
  • ELISA
  • IBR, Aujeszky’s disease, PRRS, BVD, TRT
  • Enzyme level determination
  • BNP (Brain natriuretic peptide), ANP (Atrial natriuretic peptide), Endothelin, Big-Endothelin
  • Electron microscopy

Our laboratory is equipped with modern electron microscopes, such as JEOL JEM-1011 and JEOL JSM-35, that provide an adequate background for the ultrastructural investigation of the viral, bacterial and parasitic pathogens and the changes induced by them in the affected cells.

  • Transmission EM
  • Positive contrast
  • Negative contrast
  • Scanning EM
  • Histopathology

Thanks to the recent investments in modern equipments, our laboratory can provide elaborate histopathological diagnoses in only two days. Standard (HE) and special staining methods (Grocott, Giemsa, PAS etc) are being applied on a routine basis.

  • Soft tissue sample
  • Bone tissue sample
  • Special staining/reaction
  • Cytology

The cytological examination has a relatively high ratability and in some situations allows a fast diagnosis.
