The mission of the Faculty of Veterinary Science is to conduct a competitive and flexible veterinary training that meets international standards and is adapted to the changing economic and social environment, and to prepare its students for the high-level performance of tasks presented by a knowledge-based society. The vision of the Faculty is to play a leading role in the field of scientific undergraduate and postgraduate training in Hungary, in the disciplines cultivated by the Faculty’s institutes and departments, as well as in meeting the domestic and international demand for veterinarians, in the service of society, while maintaining the university’s previous course of development and nurturing its intellectuality and traditions.
The mission of the Faculty is to meet the domestic and international demands for specialists and to operate as a research, technical, innovation and development centre of the region.
Its objective is to train intellectuals with attitudes conforming to the European standards, who are open and susceptible to the issues of other disciplines, culture and society, are able to form a well-considered and progressive opinion about such questions and are characterised by a willingness to actively participate in solving the issues of public life.
By keeping the general training objectives in view, the Faculty of Veterinary Science wishes to provide its students with the freedom to learn, namely, within certain limits, the free choice of subjects and lecturers necessary for the acquisition of knowledge corresponding to the specific directions and levels of training.
Through its scientific research activity, the Faculty creates, develops and, through its educational system, transfers assets of special knowledge and culture, thus enabling its students to familiarise themselves with the necessary knowledge and professional ethics issues and to acquire the required skills in all the special fields cultivated by it. This facilitates the training and organised postgraduate training of veterinarians and biologists having a high level of technical knowledge and general erudition. The theoretical and practical curriculum enables graduates to apply the acquired theoretical and practical knowledge in a well-founded manner, as well as to utilise and develop further the new achievements of science in the field of agriculture, animal production, patient care, veterinary administration, environmental science, environmental protection and animal welfare, food production, technical education and research. The training provided by the Faculty puts special emphasis on the development of ethical behaviour, on shaping the right economy-oriented attitude and way of thinking, on preparing students for their future activity as leaders and public figures, and on providing students with a good command of foreign languages. The Faculty prepares students for the safeguarding and rational use of natural resources and for the protection of humans, the fauna and the environment.
The Faculty provides its teachers and researchers with the freedom to teach and conduct research. Within the framework of research freedom, they have the right to raise experimental questions on their own, to design experiments freely within the bounds allowed by law, to acquire the financial resources necessary for the research, to submit tenders and grant applications and to use the grants in conformity with the relevant regulations. The Faculty operates a doctoral school. It makes possible the establishment and continuous development of domestic and international scientific relations and facilitates the international mobility of teachers and students. It supports the free flow of information and encourages professional and scientific co-operation.
The Faculty of Veterinary Science of Szent István University provides education and training in veterinary science and biology. This training has strong theoretical foundations but is also highly practice-oriented.
As the Faculty considers its international reputation a high priority, it is continually striving to provide its students with an education of high standard and excellent quality. To this end, it intentionally adheres to the recommendations and guidelines of both the international quality assurance organisations (European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education, European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education) and the Hungarian Accreditation Committee. The Faculty puts special emphasis on meeting the demands of parties making use of its services, on the highest possible level (small animal, equine and farm animal clinics).
The Faculty intends to attain the following objectives:
The Faculty is highly committed to ensuring that its name provides a guarantee in the field of education, research and services both in Hungary and abroad.
