Artúr Horn (1911 – 2013)

 

Scientific agriculturist, a professor of animal husbandry.

His scientific activities covered a very wide spectrum, including applied animal genetics and breeding as well as various areas of poultry, swine and cattle husbandry. He explored certain theoretical correlations of the heterosis effect. Together with his colleagues, he created such dairy cattle breeds as the Hungarian brown, the Hungarian spotted and the Hungaro-Friesian. He promoted the concept of animal breeding based on population genetics relying on an international gene base across Europe.

He was first a corresponding than a full member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
