Physician, a professor of general pathology, morbid anatomy and parasitology.
His scientific investigations mainly focused on parasites, especially worms. He is respected as the creator and founder of Hungarian helminthology. His parasitological research was primarily aimed at flukes, tapeworms and roundworms. He is credited for the discovery of several new worm species. He was the first to conduct research in ichthyopathology.
He served two terms as deputy rector of the University. He was elected by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences as a corresponding member.
