Description, acquired knowledge<\/td> The subject “Infectious diseases” has been taught from the foundation of the school. Since infectious diseases have always been very important in Hungary, the subject receives a special emphasis in the curriculum. It comprises general epidemiology, infectious diseases of animals caused by viruses, prions and bacteria. In the case of the different infectious diseases the history, occurrence, aetiology, epidemiology, pathogenesis, clinical signs, pathologic lesions, diagnostic methods, differential diagnostics, treatment, prevention, control are discussed, but food hygienic and public health significance are also mentioned. Teaching is carried out in the form of lectures and plenary practicals.<\/td> <\/tr>
Competences<\/td>

After absolving the subject the students will be able to<\/p>

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 recognise the clinical signs and post mortem lesions of the infectious diseases of animals,<\/p>

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 promote and facilitate the diagnosis of infectious diseases of animals by appropriate sampling,<\/p>

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 diagnose infectious diseases of animals by using laboratory methods,<\/p>

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 evaluate the results of diagnostic tests of infectious diseases of animals,<\/p>

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 treat and prevent infectious diseases,<\/p>

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 introduce and implement preventive measures,<\/p>

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 apply appropriate veterinary and public health measures.<\/td> <\/tr>

Plenary practicals<\/td>

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The class is divided at the plenary practicals.<\/p>

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The topic of the plenary practicals is the differential diagnosis of infectious diseases in different animal species.<\/p>

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Attending plenary practicals is compulsory. In the case of absence \u2013 including the justified ones (e.g. clinical work) \u2013 missing practicals have to be retaken. Retake happens in the form of a written exam, where some questions are put related to the study material of the practical.<\/p>

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Plenary practicals are held in the form of two-hour-long sessions according to the officially announced schedule.<\/td> <\/tr>

Teaching environment<\/td> The design of the lecture, slides on clinical signs and lesions of the diseases are in power point presentations with additional videos.<\/td> <\/tr>
