Since infectious diseases have always been very important in Hungary, the subject receives a special emphasis in the curriculum. It comprises general epidemiology, infectious diseases of animals caused by viruses, prions and bacteria. In the case of the different infectious diseases the history, occurrence, aetiology, epidemiology, pathogenesis, clinical signs, postmortem lesions, diagnostic methods, differential diagnostics, treatment, prevention, control are discussed, but food hygienic and public health significance are also mentioned. Teaching is carried out in the form of lectures and practicals.<\/td> <\/tr> <tr> <td width=\"158\">Competences (Day1 competencies)<\/td> <td width=\"456\"> <p>After absolving the subject, the students will be able to<\/p> <p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 recognise and differentiate the different infectious diseases,<\/p> <p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 introduce measures in order to prevent spread of infectious diseases,<\/p> <p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 collect samples to laboratory diagnostic examination, transport them to the laboratory, and evaluate the results of the laboratory diagnostic examinations,<\/p> <p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 treat diseased animals,<\/p> <p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 implement necessary preventive and control measures,<\/p> <p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 introduce measures in order to prevent human infections,<\/p> <p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 prepare expertise regarding the disease,<\/p> <p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 inform the owner and the workers in contact with the animals on further treatment and prevention,<\/p> <p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 inform the official veterinary service and the human health service in statutory cases,<\/p> <p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 inform the public on the disease.<\/td> <\/tr> <tr> <td width=\"158\">Prerequisite<\/td> <td width=\"456\">Epidemiology, infectious diseases I.<\/td> <\/tr> <tr> <td width=\"158\">Teaching staff<\/td> <td width=\"456\">\u00b7 Fodor, L\u00e1szl\u00f3 Professor<br \/> \u00b7\u00a0Tenk, Mikl\u00f3s\u00a0Associate Professor<br \/> \u00b7\u00a0Koll\u00e1r,\u00a0Anna Assistant Professor<br \/> \u00b7 Levente, Szeredi Assistant Professor<br \/> \u00b7 K\u00e1roly, Erd\u00e9lyi\u00a0 Research Fellow<\/td> <\/tr> <tr> <td width=\"158\">Plenary practicals<\/td> <td width=\"456\"> <p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The topic of the plenary practicals is the differential diagnosis of infectious diseases of the different animal species.<\/p> <p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Attending the plenary practicals is compulsory. In case of absence \u2013 including justified ones (e.g. clinical work) \u2013 missing practicals have to be retaken. Retake happens in the form of a written exam, where a few questions in connection with the missed practical have to be answered.<\/p> <p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Plenary practicals are held in the form of two-hour-long sessions on the dates published on the homepage.<\/td> <\/tr> <tr> <td width=\"158\">Teaching environment<\/td> <td width=\"456\"> <p>\u00b7\u00a0 \u00a0Lectures are given in the form of power point presentations, clinical signs and lesions of certain diseases are shown on video film and slides.<\/p> <p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Power point presentations of the previous academic year can be downloaded in pdf files from the moodle homepage in order to help writing own notes.<\/p> <p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Pdf notes, narrated ppt files and videos on the lectures and plenary practicals will be available on the moodle platform.<\/td> <\/tr> <tr> <td width=\"158\">Laboratory diagnostic practical<\/td> <td width=\"456\">After the successful examination, the students will have a 2-week-long \u201cLaboratory diagnostic practical\u201d in the 11<sup>th<\/sup> semester at different departments of the school or in diagnostic institutes abroad.
