History of the Institute<\/h2>

Since 1787, the first academic year of Hungarian veterinary education, animal breeding and nutrition (dietetics) has already been a subject on the preclinical training programme of the Budapest Veterinary School.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The year 1873 marked a milestone in the teaching of animal husbandry since the first department for this discipline was founded even at the Veterinary School in Hungary. At that time B\u00e9la <\/span>TORMAY<\/span><\/i><\/b> was the appointed head of the department (1873-1884). After him K\u00e1roly <\/span>MONOSTORY<\/span><\/i><\/b> (1884-1908), <\/span>Oszk\u00e1r <\/span>WELLMANN<\/span><\/i><\/b> (1908-1943),<\/span> J\u00f3zsef <\/span>SCHANDL<\/span><\/i><\/b> (1943-1944), Zolt\u00e1n <\/span>CSUK\u00c1S<\/span><\/i><\/b> (1944-1957) and J\u00f3zsef <\/span>M\u00c1RKUS<\/span><\/i><\/b> (1957-1963) headed the department.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

In 1963, the Department, of Animal Nutrition was detached from the original Department of Animal Husbandry. The first head of that independent Department of Animal Nutrition was J\u00f3zsef <\/span>M\u00c1RKUS<\/span><\/i><\/b> (1963-1973), followed by J\u00f3zsef <\/span>BOKORI<\/span><\/i><\/b> (1974-1990) and S\u00e1ndor <\/span>FEKETE<\/span><\/i><\/b> (1990-1996). During that period\u00a0 the Department of Animal Husbandry was headed by Art\u00far <\/span>HORN<\/span><\/i><\/b> (1963-1980), J\u00e1nos <\/span>DOHY<\/span><\/i><\/b> (1980-1984), and Imre <\/span>BOD\u00d3<\/span><\/i><\/b> (1984-1996).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

After this 33 year-long period, the two departments were reunited as the Department of Animal Breeding and Nutrition, headed by Imre <\/span>BOD\u00d3<\/span><\/i><\/b> (1996-1997). In 1998 S\u00e1ndor <\/span>FEKETE<\/span><\/i><\/b> (1998-2003) became the head, who integrated the laboratory animal science into the series of disciplines. Hence the new name: Institute for Animal Breeding, Nutrition and Laboratory Animal Science which is used nowadays as well. Between 2003 and 2006 J\u00f3zsef <\/span>SZAB\u00d3<\/span><\/i><\/b> was the head of the institute, followed by Istv\u00e1n <\/span>HULL\u00c1R<\/span><\/i><\/b> (2006-2015), and Andr\u00e1s <\/span>G\u00c1SP\u00c1RDY<\/span><\/i><\/b> (2015-2021).\u00a0 Since 2021 the head of the Institute is Zsombor <\/span>WAGENHOFFER<\/span><\/i><\/b>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Department of Animal Nutrition and Clinical Dietetics<\/a> (head: Istv\u00e1n <\/span>HULL\u00c1R;\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/b>Location:Budapest, Rottenbiller str. 51. Ground-floor),<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Department of Laboratory Animal Science and Animal Welfare<\/a> (head: Kinga <\/span>FODOR;\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/b>Location:\u00a0Budapest Istv\u00e1n str. 2. Building J 2nd Floor).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>
