The 20th Janelly Agricultural Research Awards<\/strong> were presented on October 9<\/strong> at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences<\/strong>. This year, two colleagues from the Department of Physiology and Biochemistry<\/strong> at the University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest<\/strong>, Dr Fanni S\u00e1ra Huber<\/strong> and Dr M\u00e1t\u00e9 Mackei<\/strong>, received this prestigious recognition.<\/p>

The event took place in the conference hall of the Academy\u2019s Library and Information Centre, hosted by Prof. Dr Ervin Bal\u00e1zs<\/strong>, full member of the Academy and President of its Section of Agricultural Sciences.
Istv\u00e1n Jakab<\/strong>, Vice President of the Hungarian National Assembly, greeted the attendees, and his presence and speech underscored the significance of both the award and the achievements of the honorees.<\/p>

Prof. J\u00e1nos Lelley<\/strong>, external member of the Academy, President of the Janelly Academy<\/strong> (the award\u2019s founder and sponsor), also shared his thoughts with the audience. The ceremony was led by Prof. Dr Attila Heged\u00fcs<\/strong>, Doctor of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Head of Department at the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences<\/strong>, and Chairman of the Janelly Foundation.<\/p>

This year, applications for the agricultural research award were open to all fields related to animal production science<\/strong>. Reflecting the importance of this discipline, 9 PhD<\/strong> and 7 MSc<\/strong> submissions were received. The awardees were introduced and commended by Prof. Dr Heged\u00fcs, after which they presented their research to the audience.<\/p>

In the MSc category<\/strong>, Dr Fanni S\u00e1ra Huber<\/strong> won first place with her research titled \u201cInvestigation of the protective effects of curcumin against acetamiprid in honey bees.\u201d <\/em>Her supervisors were Dr M\u00e1t\u00e9 Mackei<\/strong>, university veterinarian, and Dr G\u00e1bor M\u00e1tis<\/strong>, associate professor.
According to the evaluation committee, \u201cthe thesis, built on solid scientific foundations, presents valuable results that are also applicable in practice.\u201d<\/em><\/p>

In the PhD category<\/strong>, Dr M\u00e1t\u00e9 Mackei<\/strong> received first place for his research titled \u201cInvestigation of immunomodulatory factors in chicken-derived hepatic cell models.\u201d <\/em>His supervisors were Dr Zsuzsanna Neogr\u00e1dy<\/strong> and Dr G\u00e1bor M\u00e1tis<\/strong>.<\/p>

The ceremony also featured talks by former awardees \u2013 Dr Marietta Petr\u00f3czy Horv\u00e1thn\u00e9<\/strong> (MSc category, 2006) and Dr Zsuzsanna Bugyi Kormosn\u00e9<\/strong> (PhD category, 2013).
The jubilee event concluded with an engaging roundtable discussion<\/strong>, made even more memorable by the participation of previous award winners, including Dr M\u00e1rta L\u0151rincz<\/strong>, Assistant Professor at the Department of Epidemiology and Microbiology, and Dr Lilla D\u00e9nes<\/strong>, Research Fellow at the Department of Pathology of our university.<\/p>

They discussed how Hungarian agriculture can adapt to changing conditions and how the research career in agricultural sciences<\/strong> can be made more appealing to young people.<\/p> <\/div>
