We are hosting a lecture with two globally recognized experts in avian sciences. Over the next 20 years, she progressed to the position of curator. In 1998 she accepted the position of Zoological Manager at the soon to open Disney\u2019s Animal Kingdom in Florida. She returned to the Los Angeles Zoo in 2001 as the Curator of Birds until 2016.\u00a0 She is now an avian biologist for the Toledo Zoo &amp; Aquarium. Through her involvement in the California Condor Recovery Program, she worked with the staff at the Los Angeles and partner facilities to develop and refine propagation, incubation, and rearing methods for California condors and other imperilled species. Her experiences have spanned over 25 years as a global workshop instructor on avian incubation protocols as well as serving as a guest lecturer at institutions such as UCLA, UC Davis, and Durrell. Her current research is aimed at increasing the hatchability of rare and endangered species on a global scale.<\/p> <p><strong>Presentation focus: \u00a0<\/strong><\/p> <ul> <li>Managing endangered species eggs in the nest and incubator; diseases, pests, and conditions<\/li> <li>Chick rearing: Nutrition, growth, and common problems<\/li> <\/ul> <p>&nbsp;<\/p> <p><strong>Colleen Lynch, M.S. &#8211; Curator of Birds (Riverbanks Zoo &amp; Garden) &amp; Consulting Population Biologist (AZA Population Management Centre PMC)<\/strong><\/p> <p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/univet.hu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Lynch-rbz.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-30963\" src=\"https:\/\/univet.hu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Lynch-rbz-228x320.jpg\" data-replaced=\"true\" alt=\"\" width=\"228\" height=\"320\" srcset=\"https:\/\/univet.hu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Lynch-rbz-228x320.jpg 228w, https:\/\/univet.hu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Lynch-rbz-685x960.jpg 685w, https:\/\/univet.hu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Lynch-rbz.jpg 714w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 228px) 100vw, 228px\" \/><\/a>Colleen has worked for 28 years in both animal care and population biology in several AZA zoological facilities including Tracy Aviary, San Diego Zoo, Lincoln Park Zoo, and Riverbanks Zoo &amp; Garden. This extensive series of experiences has led her to focus on the sustainability of avian collections; she regards a working knowledge of population biology to be critical to successful long-term collection management.\u00a0\u00a0 As population biologist and a founding member of the AZA PMC, Colleen has advised captive breeding programs for more than 100 species and has produced more than 650 Breeding and Transfer Plans for Species Survival Plans. Colleen has specialized in the unique needs of planning for reintroduction programs and has advised several including Black-footed ferret, Guam Rail, Island Fox, San Clemente Loggerhead Shrike, Puerto Rican Parrot, and Andean Condor. As an avian manager, Colleen has specialized in artificial incubation, hand-rearing, and productive collection management.<\/p> <p><strong>\u00a0Presentation focus:<\/strong><\/p> <ul> <li>An introduction to the metrics used to measure the sustainability of institutional animal collections and step thru AZA<\/li> <li>Learn how to plan for avian hand-rearing and develop hand-rearing protocols for endangered species.<\/li> <li>An Introduction to Population Management: the basics of the science of population management and how it is applied to populations living in zoological facilities.<\/li> <\/ul> <p>&nbsp;<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We are hosting a lecture with two globally recognized experts in avian sciences.
