The Web of Science Smart Search feature uses artificial intelligence to make research faster, more relevant, and easier\u2014even if users are not yet familiar with all the keywords of a given field.<\/p> <p data-start=\"428\" data-end=\"457\"><strong data-start=\"428\" data-end=\"457\">What can Smart Search do?<\/strong><\/p> <ul data-start=\"459\" data-end=\"887\"> <li data-start=\"459\" data-end=\"602\"> <p data-start=\"461\" data-end=\"602\"><strong data-start=\"461\" data-end=\"492\">Natural language searching:<\/strong> you can ask questions in full sentences (e.g. \u201clatest research on the economic impacts of climate change\u201d).<\/p> <\/li> <li data-start=\"603\" data-end=\"735\"> <p data-start=\"605\" data-end=\"735\"><strong data-start=\"605\" data-end=\"631\">More relevant results:<\/strong> the system interprets research intent, not just keywords (this still needs to be critically checked).<\/p> <\/li> <li data-start=\"736\" data-end=\"823\"> <p data-start=\"738\" data-end=\"823\"><strong data-start=\"738\" data-end=\"775\">Identification of related topics:<\/strong> helps uncover new directions and connections.<\/p> <\/li> <li data-start=\"824\" data-end=\"887\"> <p data-start=\"826\" data-end=\"887\"><strong data-start=\"826\" data-end=\"842\">Time saving:<\/strong> fewer refinements and a faster results list.<\/p> <\/li> <\/ul> <hr data-start=\"889\" data-end=\"892\" \/> <h3 data-start=\"894\" data-end=\"965\">Searching smartly with artificial intelligence \u2013 prompting and more (<\/h3> <p data-start=\"967\" data-end=\"1298\">Chat-based artificial intelligence tools now offer multiple ways to search and use information. From the perspective of scholarly research, the most valuable tools are those that can process the most up-to-date information available online (although it is best when they search for us within a professional academic database).<\/p> <p data-start=\"1300\" data-end=\"1341\">Basically, there are two main approaches:<\/p> <ol data-start=\"1343\" data-end=\"1587\"> <li data-start=\"1343\" data-end=\"1448\"> <p data-start=\"1346\" data-end=\"1448\"><strong data-start=\"1346\" data-end=\"1381\">Simple (prompt-based) searching<\/strong>, where we ask questions and receive a quick overview of a topic.<\/p> <\/li> <li data-start=\"1449\" data-end=\"1587\"> <p data-start=\"1452\" data-end=\"1587\"><strong data-start=\"1452\" data-end=\"1471\">Using AI agents<\/strong>, which perform more complex tasks: searching, filtering, summarising, and making recommendations in multiple steps.<\/p> <\/li> <\/ol> <p data-start=\"1589\" data-end=\"1778\">These solutions effectively support orientation in the scholarly literature, especially when the goal is quick familiarisation, discovering new directions, and identifying relevant sources.<\/p> <p data-start=\"1780\" data-end=\"1859\">Artificial intelligence itself can also be used to create our own AI assistant.<\/p> <p data-start=\"1780\" data-end=\"1859\"><span style=\"font-family: 'courier new', courier, monospace\">Write a prompt to create a research assistant who searches for peer-reviewed scholarly articles in a university research group, is precise, and searches only for literature that is peer-reviewed and meets university quality guidelines, so that I can use it to build an agent.<\/span><\/p> <p data-start=\"2142\" data-end=\"2310\">The first response to the above prompt &#8211; which we can further refine ourselves before creating our AI assistant (e.g., by narrowing it to a specific discipline).<\/p> <hr data-start=\"2312\" data-end=\"2315\" \/> <h3 data-start=\"2317\" data-end=\"2378\"><span style=\"font-family: 'courier new', courier, monospace;font-size: 12pt\">RESEARCH ASSISTANT (SCHOLARLY LITERATURE SEARCH)<\/span><\/h3> <p data-start=\"2380\" data-end=\"2559\"><span style=\"font-family: 'courier new', courier, monospace;font-size: 12pt\">You are a research assistant working for a university research group.<\/span><br data-start=\"2449\" data-end=\"2452\" \/><span style=\"font-family: 'courier new', courier, monospace;font-size: 12pt\">Your task is exclusively to search for and pre-screen <strong data-start=\"2506\" 'courier new', courier, monospace;font-size: 12pt\">Your goal is to ensure that the search results can be <strong data-start=\"4010\" data-end=\"4027\">directly used<\/strong> for a university research project, publication, or grant application.<\/span><\/p> <hr data-start=\"4099\" data-end=\"4102\" \/> <h3 data-start=\"4104\" data-end=\"4143\">Short example prompts for searching<\/h3> <p data-start=\"4145\" data-end=\"4459\">a. <span style=\"font-family: 'courier new', courier, monospace\">Search for international scholarly articles on non-surgical treatment options for canine hip dysplasia in golden retrievers.<\/span><br data-start=\"4251\" data-end=\"4254\" \/>b. <span style=\"font-family: 'courier new', courier, monospace\">Search for scholarly articles that define expectations regarding veterinarians\u2019 communication skills, preferably from the 2020s onward; ideally, search separately for companion animals and farm animals.<\/span><\/p> <hr data-start=\"4461\" data-end=\"4464\" \/> <h3 data-start=\"4466\" data-end=\"4519\">What is important when evaluating search results?<\/h3> <p data-start=\"4521\" data-end=\"4716\">When reviewing results, do not rely solely on the description provided by the AI or the search system.
