Professor of microbiology, director of the Hungarian Royal State Institute of Bacteriology.<\/p>

He was the first to distinguish what he called \u2019the infectious paralysis of the medulla oblongata\u2019 from rabies. This disease was later named after him and is now called Aujeszky-disease all over the world.<\/p>

He introduced protective measures against rabies, which meant a combination of preventive vaccination combined with the execution of strict management measures. His method helped eliminate urban rabies in Hungary.<\/p>
