Máté Farkas is a veterinarian, PhD student, and researcher at the Department of Food Hygiene, Institute of Food Chain Science, University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest.

His research activities lie at the intersection of animal health, particularly poultry health, food chain safety, epidemiology, and data science, with special emphasis on the application of drone-based monitoring systems and artificial intelligence–based methods. The focus of his PhD research is the human–animal–environment system, with particular attention to the investigation, early detection, and prediction of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) and other zoonotic pathogens. His professional background includes poultry health, epidemiology, and the assessment of disease prevention and control measures (biosecurity). His work is characterized by a One Health approach, risk-based decision support, and the integration of innovative sensor and remote-sensing technologies.

In connection with his PhD work, he is involved in the development of drone-based data-collection protocols and sampling strategies. He actively contributes to the involvement of young researchers and students in research activities, to teaching, and to international projects.
