András Bittsánszky is a qualified agricultural engineer, with a PhD in crop sciences and horticultural sciences. He worked for ten years at the Centre for Agricultural Research Plant Protection Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and since 2011 he has been the research director of the InDeRe Institute for Food System Research and Innovation Ltd.

From July 2022 he is a part-time assistant professor at the Digital Food Chain Education, Research, Development and Innovation Institute(now Department of Digital Food Science). From 2025, he works at the Department of Food Hygiene. His research interests include the reduction of the environmental footprint of public catering and the applicability of food microbiological tests in food hygiene monitoring systems. At the department he coordinates research topics related to food chain safety management and food security and he is also involved in educational activities related to food hygiene and food microbiology.
