Help our University lead – Give blood, make an impact
Blood Donation – April 2026
The University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest, in cooperation with the Hungarian Red Cross and the National Blood Supply Service, is organising a blood donation event. With a single donation, you can help save up to three lives – a high-impact action with immediate societal value.
Blood donation is strictly regulated: only healthy individuals are allowed to donate, ensuring the safety of both donors and recipients. Please only attend if you are in good health.
Location: Student Centre (Building “P”)
Date: Wednesday, 8 April 2026
Time: 10:00 – 15:00
Important: During the event, dogs are not allowed to enter the building.
Part of a national university initiative
This event is part of the Hungarian Higher Education Blood Donation Competition, an annual nationwide initiative organised by the Hungarian Red Cross and the National Blood Supply Service.
Universities compete based on how many donors they mobilise relative to their student population. The most active institution receives the “Courage Award for Blood Donation.”
The campaign period (16 March – 16 May 2026) is a key activation window where universities can significantly improve their ranking. The goal is not only competition, but also to make blood donation a visible, community-driven student experience.
Important: donations made anywhere in Hungary can be counted for the university if you indicate your affiliation.
Eligibility criteria
You can participate as a blood donor if you:
-
are in good health and feel well
-
are between 18 and 65 years of age
-
weigh at least 50 kg
-
have a valid EU health insurance card
-
bring your ID (passport or identity card) and Hungarian address card
-
have had any tattoos or piercings at least 6 months prior to donation
Students (full-time, part-time), as well as university staff, are all welcome to participate.
Process overview
All donors undergo a short medical screening before donation. Final eligibility is determined by the attending physician on-site. If you are unsure about your eligibility (e.g. medication, previous conditions), you can consult with the doctor during the screening.
Why it matters
Blood cannot be manufactured – it can only come from donors. Your contribution directly supports emergency care, surgeries, and life-saving treatments.
