Project title: “Indigenous farm animal species, breeds and ecotypes of the Carpathian Basin XXI. the scientific foundation and development of the 20th century gene bank strategy”

The purpose of the call was to support the research programs of strategically important, internationally outstanding research workshops (centers of excellence) carried out independently or in cooperation, and the development of the infrastructure related to the research program.

Along with the National Agricultural Research and Innovation Center and Szent István University, our university participates as a consortium partner in the implementation of the project, which is led by the Livestock Gene Conservation Center. for professional work, in which the staff of the Department of Animal Husbandry, Nutrition and Laboratory Animal Science, as well as the Department of Obstetrics and Farm Animal Medicine Clinic, participate.

Start of project implementation: 07/03/2017

Deadline for the physical completion of the project: 01.06.2022.

The results planned to be implemented:
– Virtual genebanks and 3D models in several animal species,
– Gene bank development of livestock nucleus stocks using new methods (development and preservation based on individual phenotypic and genotypic tests)
– The development of the possibility of sterilization of microplasma infection in geese
– Use of a semen treatment method to remove pathogens from semen samples, creation of a dog cryobank
– Development of in vivo livestock populations; collection of genetic samples (dog and other species semen deep-cooling database, gene bank samples)
