Summary:
In the past few decades the reproductive biology shows high attention on culture and preservation of early ovarian follicles as a promising fertility preservation strategy. Beyond the fact that early follicle development is a field to be clarified, this area of research has practical potential in animal breeding. The follicles cultured and preserved in the laboratory gives us the opportunity to store oocytes from genetically valuable animals if the conventional reproductive biology techniques (ovum pickup, in vitro fertilization, insemination) do not work (e.g. because of premature death). Beside these, it could be useful to gene conservation of endangered species. Aim of our research is to investigate the interspecies differences among three species (mouse, cattle, dog) in the following parameters: culture in laboratory and tolerance against the freezing. We plan to apply our results in other species in the future.
