Course description

General aims of the course:

The aim of that course is to introduce the fundamentals of feeding of some exotic animals. That knowledge does not belong to the regular subject, although these animals appear fairly frequently in small animal clinics, and some of them are also kept as farm animals.

 

Minimal previous course requirements: Animal nutrition 1.

Lectures theme

  • Biology, artificial rearing, and age related feeding of small mammals (hedgehogs, squirrels), adaptation and realising.
  • Housing, feeding of cage birds (parrots, canaries, finches, lories) and pigeons.
  • Hand rearing of parrots.
  • Biology of reptiles, housing and feeding of tortoises and turtles.
  • Biology and feeding of lizards.
  • Feed related health problems of exotic animals and their treatments.
