RESEARCH TOPIC:

In the focus of the research group’s microbiome-related investigations, both general and special topics can be found, the methodological backbone of which is provided by techniques based on next-generation sequencing and bioinformatics methods. The general topics include surveys aimed at better understanding the communities of viruses and microorganisms in healthy and diseased farm and companion animals, where we place special emphasis on the analysis of microbial community phenotypes (e.g. resistome, metabolome) that may influence the physiological characteristics of the host. The applied metagenomics research direction is partly represented by the development and adaptation of laboratory methods. In addition, the goals of the research group include the characterization of certain commercial products (e.g. probiotics, phage cocktails) and the investigation of the use of these and other products (e.g. antibiotics) on the composition of the microbiome.
