Starting this year animal protection has become a compulsory subject in veterinary courses at University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest in the Hungarian, English and German curriculum. Furthermore, a new animal protection postgraduate training will begin in 2017 – stated rector dr. Péter Sótonyi in a press conference.

Animal welfare and animal protection was always a substantial part of the course, but from this year the subject is compulsory for every veterinary student at the university, thereby raising the course’s standards. During the 11 semesters students receive theoretical training and hands-on experiences, they meet several real medical issues and participate in many surgeries before graduation.

For a long time, the university has been committed to animal welfare and protection, and – as a milestone of this matter – from 2017 students can apply to a specialized postgraduate training.
