Heroes Day

The University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest, the Hungarian Veterinary Association, and the Hungarian Veterinary Chamber hold a commemoration at the end of May every year on Heroes' Day in front of the memorials on the walls of the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, the Department of Chemistry, and the library of the Faculty of Veterinary Science.

A ceremony was held at the University of Veterinary Medicine’s park to commemorate all soldiers who died for their Hungarian homeland. Parliament declared the last Sunday in May a national day for Hungary’s Heroes in 2001, partly reviving a 1917 law under which all towns and cities were obliged to erect monuments to soldiers who died in World War I.

As part of the Heroes Day ceremony, wreaths of commemoration were laid by Dr. Péter Sótonyi rector and Dr. Tibor Németh vice-rector at the plaque of Zoltán Tatay veterinary student, who died of martyrdom in 1956 October 24th.
