To support our international students’ cultural life, we invited them to a special play.
Matei Visniec’s play OCCIDENTAL EXPRESS, using an episodic structure, tells a story of people from the East reaching for the mythical West and its promise of utopian future only to realize that the titular train is heading toward an illusion. Using fragmentary structure and many characters, Matei Visniec’s play OCCIDENTAL EXPRESS weaves a story from the perspective of people from the ex-communist countries whose hopes of the western world dream-life get tarnished by illusion and consumerism. This project is supported by the Trust for Mutual Understanding.
“Thank you for giving this opportunity. This was my first time at any theatre in Budapest, since my arrival here. I was too involved in the play. All the characters were very good in their respective field of acting. So, it was a complete package.” (Karan Talgotra)
„I enjoyed so much the play […] after minutes turned more and more interesting. The content of the play is current and real, the approach was very good, as well as the development of this play. The actors were really great as well.” (Helena Pacheco)
