On 7th of October 2020, our students and colleagues saved lives by donating blood at the Student Center of the University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest. Blood cannot be replaced by anything else, so maintaining a continuous, safe blood supply during the coronavirus epidemic is a priority. From the 42 volunteers, 39 were allowed to donate blood after the medical examination, in strict compliance with safety regulations. Blood donors were allowed to enter the Student Center after using hand sanitizer and wearing a mask. Their body heat was measured immediately, followed by further examinations before they could sit in the blood donation chair.
According to the information of the Hungarian Red Cross, 1,600-1,800 voluntary blood donors would be needed every day to ensure a safe blood supply in Hungary. Once again, we thank our blood donors for helping others in their healing process and save their lives.
Further information on blood donation, locations and criteria can be found at www.veradas.hu at www.ovsz.hu and on the mobile application of the Hungarian Red Cross.
