The Poultry Product Council (BTT) and the University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest (UVMB) have entered into a cooperation agreement to develop a strategy for biosecurity measures on poultry farms, monitor the biosecurity situation on poultry farms, and enhance the professional knowledge of veterinary students participating in undergraduate education in poultry herd health.
The Poultry Product Council, established in 1991, is the most important organization in the Hungarian poultry sector. It brings together companies involved in the production, processing, and distribution of poultry products (breeding and reproductive material, broilers, poultry meat, eggs, and processed poultry products).
The council’s members include organizations engaged in poultry breeding, reproduction, incubation, production, and processing, as well as trading companies, cooperatives, and their professional associations involved in the wholesale, retail, export, and import of cut and processed poultry products.
The operational professional responsibility for the collaboration lies with the Department of Animal Hygiene Herd Health and Mobile Clinic. This department carries out all strategic tasks on behalf of the University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest. With a significant history of expertise in the health management of economically valuable livestock, the department has built extensive networks in recent years and achieved internationally recognized quality in poultry herd health activities. It has extensive experience not only in specific herd health management but also in non-specific disease prevention methods, including the field of biosecurity.
The joint work will commence in March 2022. The common strategic tasks are as follows:
- Developing a strategy for biosecurity measures on poultry farms and active cooperation on other professional matters related to this topic.
- Continuously supervising the Veterinary Tele-Audit System for Disease Control developed by the BTT and put into use since last summer, participating in farm inspections, and actively contributing to the system’s further development.
- Participating in the processing and evaluation of data derived from the disease control audit system.
The agreement also includes the publication of professional materials and scientific articles related to disease prevention based on data from poultry farm audits. Furthermore, the BTT-UVMB convention involves the educational participation of undergraduate veterinary students from our university in professional work for teaching purposes.
