The University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest also takes action to ensure the health of refugees from Ukraine and their companion animals

Peter Sótonyi, the rector of the University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest, stated that the students and the employees of the University express their deep empathy for those fleeing from war-torn areas and, using their resources, do everything they can to assist both the refugees and their companion animals.

Peter Sótonyi mentioned that they are sending durable food items (cooking oil, canned goods, biscuits, sugar, pasta, flour, rice, baby food, etc.), hygiene products (diapers, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, masks, etc.), as well as blankets, bedding, and sleeping bags to those in need in cooperation with the Hungarian Ecumenical Aid Organization.

The process of providing accommodation options for families at the University is in progress.

The rector of Hungary’s only veterinary training institution also announced that the procurement of veterinary consumables (such as disinfectants and gloves) and a larger quantity of dog and cat food is already underway. These supplies will be delivered to the companion animals of families fleeing from Ukraine within a few days. The employees, students, and partner organizations of the University are all involved in this collaborative effort. Animal health is closely related to human health as well, he added. The donations for animals will soon be delivered to the border by the University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest in collaboration with the Hungarian Veterinary Chamber.

On Monday, March 7, 2022, our minibus loaded with donations set off for the base of the Hungarian Ecumenical Aid Organization.
