The Researchers’ Night is Hungary’s largest science communication event series, and this year the University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest joined with ten exciting programs. Both young and elderly with an interest in veterinary science quickly filled the 550 spots, and on September 30, Friday, starting at 4:00 PM, they took over the lecture halls at the István Street campus.
The bravest ones got acquainted with dog anatomy, where they could observe a real dissection. The seats for our presentation titled “Chemistry Everywhere” were quickly taken, where colourful, smoky, and explosive experiments amazed the attendees, using everyday cleaning products. Those interested in a research career had the opportunity to learn about the basic functioning of DNA and genes through our interactive programs, identify bacteria, and gain insight into the tissue microstructure of the brain using a modern transmission electron microscope. Thanks to the Department of Parasitology and Zoology, interesting facts about blood-sucking organisms living in our country were revealed. The role of veterinarians in food chain security is often a novelty for many, so this year, colleagues of the Digital Food Chain Institute prepared two programs on this topic. At the end, the “Animal Escape Room” served as a fun entertainment opportunity, where players got closer to the recipe of a vaccine against a deadly disease by solving various puzzles.
Let’s meet again next year!
