The comprehensive development of the campus continues with the modernization of buildings designed by Imre Steindl. The first phase of the development project at the István Street campus of the University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest will begin in a matter of weeks. The construction contract was signed by Prof. Dr. Péter Sótonyi, the Rector of the University, and Attila Paár, the owner and CEO of WEST HUNGARIA BAU Ltd. As part of the 5.2 billion HUF investment, several buildings designed by Imre Steindl will be renovated.
As a first step in the campus development, educational units operating in the renovated buildings will be temporarily relocated to the Rottenbiller and Bethlen Gábor Street buildings of the University, which will be refurbished as needed. The relocation is planned to take place during the winter exam period to ensure uninterrupted education. Concurrently with these works, utility development will be carried out, followed by the modernization of the prestigious B and C buildings, where the interior spaces and facades will be renovated while preserving the architectural heritage.
“The comprehensive development of the campus has historic significance for the future of the University, further strengthening its international role. We can attract foreign scientists to Budapest even more successfully if we can provide them with the conditions that meet the scientific research expectations of the 21st century,” emphasized Prof. Dr. Péter Sótonyi, the Rector of the University, during the ceremonial signing of the contract.
The renovation of the buildings will be completed in the second half of 2023, and at the same time, the landscaping of the park and the preservation and transplantation of valuable trees will be realized.
