Direct conversation with students – Prime Minister visits UVMB

On March 27, 2025, Viktor Orbán, Prime Minister of Hungary, visited the István Street campus of the University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest to meet with the leaders of the student government and student committee. The informal discussion, held in the university library, provided students with the opportunity to share their thoughts and experiences and ask their most important questions.

A key topic of discussion was the ongoing foot-and-mouth disease outbreak, where nearly 150 volunteer students from the university are assisting the veterinary health authorities as part of an organized initiative by UVMB. The Prime Minister expressed his appreciation for the veterinary students’ enthusiastic efforts and thanked them for their selfless contributions.

He also inquired about students’ daily lives and the challenges of student life, reminiscing about his university years. Special attention was given to the Pannonia Scholarship Program, which offers students the opportunity to gain professional experience abroad.

During the more than two-hour-long conversation, discussions covered various topics, including career opportunities for recent graduates, the state of agriculture and rural areas, the role and financial recognition of official veterinarians, the domestic impacts of climate change, and the current situation of education and healthcare in Hungary.
