Record number of applicants to the University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest

This data applies specifically to Hungarian applicants and the university’s Hungarian-language programs.

In early March 2025, the official application data for higher education admissions, which closed on February 15, was released. A record number of students have applied for the Hungarian-language veterinary medicine program at the University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest.

According to the latest data, 781 applicants applied for the Hungarian-language veterinary medicine program, marking a significant increase of 148 applicants compared to last year’s 633. There were 577 first-choice applications for state-funded places, while 26 applicants selected the university as their first choice for the tuition-based program. In total, 756 applications were submitted for the state-funded veterinary program, while 379 applicants applied for the self-financed option.

The growing popularity of the university and the increasing number of Hungarian applicants reflect the rising interest in the veterinary profession. In recent years, the university has continuously improved its educational infrastructure and expanded the number of state-funded places through government support. For this year’s admissions, it is expected that 155 students will be accepted into state-funded places, while approximately 45-50 students will begin their studies in the self-financed program.

The number of applicants has also increased for the Master’s programs in Research Zoology and Biology. The Research Zoology program received 161 applications, 17 more than last year, while the 60 applications for the Biology Master’s program represent an increase of 20 compared to the previous year.

The University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest maintains high admission requirements: applicants must have advanced-level final exams in Biology and Chemistry, and proficiency in a foreign language is also expected. Preparation and dedication are crucial for a successful application, as the university is recognized not only in Hungary but also internationally.

The rising number of applications indicates that the veterinary profession remains highly popular, with sustained interest in the field. The University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest remains committed to providing high-quality education and equipping future veterinarians with essential practical knowledge.
