The spring semester wouldn’t be complete without Equus Days. This grand event, possibly the most significant in students’ lives at the University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest, has been a cherished tradition since 1975. During this special week, students take control of the university’s downtown campus and fill it with vibrant and exciting programs.
This year, the organisers once again welcomed the university community with a countless variety of activities: sports matches, lectures, water games, the “Bos Major” election, cake contest, Puding, Equus parties, and of course, the unmissable parade that brought colour to the week-long festival.
A highlight of the event series is the International Day, when students from nearly 70 countries present their national delicacies along the park’s path. But the diverse communities offer more than just gastronomic treats—they share their customs, traditions, and often their country’s signature drinks. Amid the colourful and bustling scene, organisers keep the crowd engaged with games, competitions, and traditional folk dancing.
Another key tradition of Equus Days is the parade. In 2025, just like every year, the university’s rector, Prof. Dr. Péter Sótonyi, led the carriage through the István Street gate, escorted by motorcycle police and hussars. Joined by hundreds of students, the procession made its way to the Marek József Educational Centre and Dormitory, 5 km away.
