On 30 May 2025, the University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest (UVMB) proudly celebrated the launch of its Irish Alumni Chapter with a distinguished alumni reunion held at the Embassy of Hungary in Dublin. The event marked a historic milestone in the university’s international alumni engagement efforts and highlighted UVMB’s commitment to fostering lifelong connections with its global graduates.
The reception took place in the elegant setting of the Hungarian Embassy, providing a fitting backdrop for the occasion. Former students residing in Ireland gathered to reconnect with each other and with their alma mater, strengthening the professional and personal bonds that tie them to UVMB.
The event was opened by Dr. Gergely Bánhegyi, Ambassador of Hungary to Ireland, who welcomed guests and praised the strong academic and cultural ties between Hungary and Ireland. He emphasized the role of alumni communities in promoting international cooperation and supporting the next generation of professionals.
Prof. Dr. Tibor Bartha, Chief Advisor for International Affairs at UVMB, delivered a heartfelt speech that balanced formality and familiarity. He expressed gratitude for the alumni’s continued engagement and spoke about the university’s enduring mission to provide world-class veterinary education with global reach.
Dr. Brian Mooney, a respected Irish Guidance Counselor, offered insights into the current trends in veterinary education in Ireland, and reflected on the value of international academic experience in shaping a diverse and competent veterinary workforce.
The evening concluded with a welcome message from Dr. Sandra Conlon, the newly appointed Chapter Lead for Ireland. She introduced the goals of the Irish–UVMB Alumni Association and encouraged active participation in upcoming initiatives.
Following the formal program, the event transitioned into an informal reception featuring traditional Hungarian cuisine and wine. The gathering provided a meaningful opportunity for networking, sharing memories of university years in Budapest, and exchanging professional experiences from Ireland and beyond.
The UVMB Alumni Office extends its sincere thanks to the Embassy of Hungary in Dublin for their generous support, and to all alumni who contributed to the event’s success.
The launch of the Irish Alumni Chapter represents an important step in UVMB’s broader strategy to build a dynamic, engaged, and international alumni network. The university looks forward to future chapter events and continued collaboration with its alumni worldwide.
