The Tolnay Sándor Award was established on January 27, 1992, by the Ministry of Agriculture in memory of Sándor Tolnay, the first Hungarian professor of veterinary medicine, who laid the foundations of Hungarian veterinary education. The award is presented annually to recognise outstanding achievements in veterinary practice and research.
This year, Dr. József Rátky, university professor and head of the Department of Obstetrics and Large Animal Clinic, received the award in recognition of his decades of exceptional national and international contributions in the fields of reproductive biology and the preservation of indigenous animal breeds, as well as his teaching, research, and scientific organisational work.
The award was presented to him by Dr. István Nagy, Minister of Agriculture, on Monday, August 18, at the Pesti Vigadó.
