Nóri Csepi, a fifth-year veterinary student, spent this summer on the other side of the world, gaining life-changing experiences and hands-on knowledge in the field of equine medicine thanks to the Pannónia Scholarship Program.
Similar to the Erasmus program, the Pannónia Scholarship supports international mobility activities such as student internships abroad.
Based on Nóri’s enthusiastic report, it’s safe to say that international study trips are not only opportunities to build professional and personal connections, but also to gain experiences and knowledge that shape one’s entire professional life. When a Hungarian veterinary student gains practical experience abroad, both countries’ veterinary communities benefit – forging long-lasting connections through which knowledge will continue to flow for decades.
Nóri’s days at the equine clinic were busy and diverse: from morning to afternoon, she assisted in numerous cases, including ovariectomies, enucleations, cryptorchid and arthroscopic surgeries. Besides surgery, she actively participated in anaesthesia, orthopaedics, dentistry, and internal medicine procedures as well.
Afternoons and weekends were reserved for exploration and relaxation: long walks along the ocean, koala and kangaroo-spotting trips, city tours among skyscrapers, forest hikes, rides on scenic trains, horseback riding, and even ice skating – just to name a few. According to Nóri, Australians are not only warm and welcoming but also incredibly cheerful and inclusive; she felt treated like family, a true part of the team.
Veterinary medicine is, in essence, a global ecosystem – diseases, nature, and animals know no borders, and therefore, our knowledge shouldn’t either. New and innovative scientific breakthroughs often arise from unexpected places, whether in the form of creative, resource-efficient solutions or novel preventive techniques. The more diverse the perspectives, the stronger and more resilient the profession becomes.
