Professor Dr Erzsébet Hornung receives the Antal Máriás Memorial Medal

Professor Dr Erzsébet Hornung has been awarded the Antal Máriás Memorial Medal by the National Scientific Students’ Associations Council (OTDT).

The renowned and tireless Dr Antal Máriás, Professor Emeritus and TDK (Scientific Students’ Associations) leader, was one of the most prominent and influential figures of the Hungarian student research movement throughout his life. In addition to his many other professional roles and commitments, he was a member of the National Scientific Students’ Associations Council, its Executive Board, and the Pro Scientia Gold Medal Awarding Committee, as well as the Chair of the Pro Scientia Foundation Board of Trustees.

The National Scientific Students’ Associations Council established the Antal Máriás Memorial Medal on September 24, 2001.

In honour and memory of Dr Antal Máriás, the Council awards the Antal Máriás Memorial Medal every two years – in the years of the national TDK conferences – to outstanding senior mentors who have played a defining role in developing academic schools and supporting generations of students. Traditionally, one of the recipients is always an economist.

The silver medal, created by medal artist György Bognár, features the portrait of Antal Máriás and the inscription: “I live in young hearts…” The medal is presented in a personalised engraved case by the President of the National Scientific Students’ Associations Council during the closing ceremony of the National Conference, traditionally held in the Ceremonial Hall of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.

This year, the award ceremony will take place on November 25.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Professor Dr Erzsébet Hornung and wish her continued good health and success in her work!
