April means EQUUS Days. One of the University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest’s oldest traditions and a flagship program series of the spring semester once again transformed the campus into a vibrant festival environment. Year-group competitions, the Bos/Bovina Major election, sports matches, a cake competition, folk dance events, the legendary Puding party, and the student picnic all returned — this time complemented by unseasonably warm, summer-like April weather.
As every year, one of the highlights of the program was the International Day, where students from nearly 70 countries showcased the culinary specialities of their home nations, often dressed in traditional attire. This colourful event vividly reflects the university’s international character, offering visitors the opportunity to experience a wide range of global cuisines and beverages in one place.
A standout element of the university’s signature festival was once again the ceremonial parade. In line with tradition, Rector Péter Sótonyi departed through the István Street gate in a horse-drawn carriage, accompanied by hussars and a police escort, heading toward the Marek József Education Centre and Dormitory located 5 kilometres away. The procession was followed by hundreds of students in a celebratory atmosphere all the way to the dormitory.
Upon arrival, the Rector inaugurated the rebuilt wooden pavilion in honour of the 50th EQUUS Days, fulfilling a long-standing personal commitment. The pavilion had previously hosted numerous university events. In parallel, the sports field and its surroundings also underwent a full-scale renovation. The official handover ceremony took place following the parade.
