The Hungarian Diaspora Scholarship Programme was established by the Government of Hungary for those who live in the Hungarian diaspora outside Europe and wish to study at a Hungarian higher education institution in order to strengthen their personal, professional, and cultural ties with Hungary.
The aim of the scholarship programme is to support the professional development of the scholarship holders and the deepening of their Hungarian language skills and identity by providing high-quality Hungarian higher education courses. After graduation, scholarship holders return home with competitive knowledge and skills, which enables them to effectively support their community, preserve Hungarian values and strengthen relations between Hungary and the diaspora.
The scholarship programme is intended for members of the Hungarian diaspora community living in any country of the world, except for the Member States of the European Union, the Republic of Serbia, and the Transcarpathian County of Ukraine.
The condition for submitting the application is a recommendation by a diaspora organization operating in the field or a Hungarian embassy. Questions related to the issuance of the recommendation should be addressed to diaspora organizations or foreign missions in the 1-2 months prior to the submission of the application.

The Scholarship package offers:
» Full coverage of tuition fee
» Monthly stipend (for 12 months a year, until the completion of studies):
- One-tier Master level:
- HUF 43.700/month (cca USD 132)
- Doctoral level:
- HUF 140.000 (cca USD 423 for the first phase of education (1-4 semesters)
- HUF 180.000 (cca USD 544) for the second phase (5-8 semesters)
- HUF 400.000 (cca USD 1.210) one-off allowance when studies are successfully finished
» Contribution to private accommodation: HUF 40,000/month (cca USD 121)
» Medical insurance
» Travel contribution
- One-off allowance (upon request) at the beginning of the studies if the distance between Budapest and the applicant’s place of residence is 8.000 km or more.
- Hungary Pass: unlimited travel throughout Hungary
