Summer School at the University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest

It’s not always easy to decide which profession is best for us when we are young. But this summer the University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest showed that becoming a veterinarian can be a good choice. With a one-week program, we showed for a bunch of young titans what university studies are like as a vet student and life as a vet. We were sure that by the end of the summer school our guests would have a better understanding of what vets do. As a plus, the program took place in a vibrant and beautiful Budapest.

This year we organized Summer School at the University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest for the first time. We had accepted applicants from high school students from the United Kingdom, Ireland, Malta, Russia, Turkey and Bulgaria with a strong interest in science subjects and in the field of veterinary science.

The participants had the chance to experience all that the veterinary university and Budapest has to offer for them as a future vet student. During the one-week program, we showed them the 230 years old campus and how the departments and classrooms look like. As a bonus, they could visit the small animal clinic and sneak a peek at operations and minor procedures.

The well-experienced future vet students also had the chance to get a hands-on experience with a dog’s anatomy and they could deepen their knowledge at the university’s skills lab.

Also, we could show something new and interesting with the help of professional guides at the Zoo Budapest and at the Hungarian Tropicarium which is Central Europe’s largest saltwater aquarium.

In the preparation period, we tried to focus not only to the benefits of the university and the provided education but also to the benefits of the vibrant and colourful city of Budapest which are going to be their home for nearly six years.
