Practical demonstration: Gábor Halász

Supervision by: Dr. János Gál

We give professional practice of beekeeping for the students. We show the work of the beekeeper to colleagues, who can thus form an idea of the future tasks that await them in bee health. During the practice, we demonstrate practical tricks in beekeeping in about 4 x 45 minutes. The stages of this are:

Workstation 1: Beekeeper’s Protective Equipment

We present the parts of the protective clothing that protects the beekeeper and describe its function. A short accident prevention demonstration takes place in the garden of this. At the end of the presentation, the students must put on their clothes.

Time spent: 25 minutes

Workstation 2: Technique of Calming Bees

We will demonstrate the parts of the smoke generator and how to install it. We will show you the different materials that can be used for smoking. A short fire safety briefing will take place in this context. At the end of the presentation, the students must set up the incense and practice using it

Time spent: 25 minutes

Workstation 3: The parts of the hive and the technique of dismantling the hive

On an unused but fully functional hive, we show the students the steps of the regular dismantling of the hive and briefly describe its parts. We present the various honeycombs and broods built into the frame. At the end of the presentation, the students must practice the process of opening the hive in a small group.

Time spent: 40 minutes

Workstation 4: Presentation of different pollinating insects on mounts

Individual pollinating insects are briefly demonstrated.

Time spent: 25 minutes

Workstation 5: Introduction to Honey Varieties

Macroscopic evaluation and presentation of certain types of honey (acacia, mixed flower, rape honey) in bottles.

Time spent: 20 minutes

Workstation 6: The 12 months of the beekeeper

We briefly review the annual work schedule of a beekeeper with the students.
