In particular: environmental factors influencing the reproduction and destruction of micro-organisms, interactions of micro-organisms with each other and with flora and fauna, basics of biodegradation, bioreactors, biotechnology. The role of microbes in the global elemental cycle (carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus, etc.). Food and water-borne pathogenic microbes. Microbiology of settlements. Bioterrorism.
