RESEARCH TOPIC:

The aim of the research is to develop in vitro cell culture models, to characterize pathological conditions induced by oxidative stress and inflammation caused by bacteria and xenobiotics, and to investigate the positive (anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, barrier-enhancing, antibacterial, etc.) effects of alternative dietary and feed supplements (e.g. probiotics, plant-derived compounds) on the models. We contribute to reducing animal testing in the context of the 3Rs principle by using models from different animal species, both companion and farm animals, representing their digestive tract and immune system. We also contribute to the maintenance of animal health and the reduction of antibiotic use and antimicrobial resistance, by testing alternatives of natural origin and by exploring the mechanisms underlying the positive effects.
