The widespreading intestinal and extraintestinal effects of butyrate are mostly based on the epigenetic regulation of gene expression by the inhibition of histone deacetylases (HDAC). In comparison with the already known in vitro HDAC inhibitory activity of butyrate, the main goal of this project is to study the in vivo effect of oral butyrate application on hepatic histone acetylation in chicken. Cooperation with Prof. Korinna Huber (University of Veterinary Medicine, Hannover, Germany).
