The Association of Hungarian PhD and DLA Candidates (Doktoranduszok Országos Szövetsége, DOSZ) is glad to announce the continuation of its new initiative, the DOSZ Ambassador System. Since 1994 DOSZ is the national association to represent all PhD candidates, without any citizenship distinction, who are currently delivering PhD studies in Hungary. The aim of the Ambassador System is to set up an international environment for young scientists in Hungary, and to internationalise PhD education within the country by crossing boundaries, we would like to facilitate international scientific connections, involving foreign PhD candidates currently doing their research in one of the Hungarian higher education institutions. We believe that only an internationally active PhD community can be competitive and sustainable.
We are looking for you if you:
- are a foreign PhD candidate or young researcher in Hungary
- would be able to represent young researchers of your country of origin in Hungary
- would like to be the representative of your country in the DOSZ Ambassador System
- have initiatives how Hungarian scientific life could be more inclusive and internationally open
- would like to contribute to building scientific bridges between Hungary and your country of origin
- would like to be part of a developing community
- have good communication and organisational skills
- are open minded
- are a PhD candidate of a Hungarian university
- are physically in Hungary.
Please note that having experience in student advocacy and community building is an advantage.
What DOSZ can offer?
DOSZ officially nominates all DOSZ Ambassadors on the XXVI. Spring Wind Conference in May. DOSZ Ambassadors – with their nomination – are automatically going to be the members of DOSZ Ambassador System, being the Ambassador of your country’s young scientists would lead you to advocate doctoral students’ interest of your nation, to organise scientific events, to maintain connection with your country’s Embassy accredited to Hungary. DOSZ is also committed to help PhD candidates to deal with the challenges of Hungarian labour market, and strengthen international fellows’ connection with Hungarian authorities and scientific institutions.
What are our goals?
Our main goal is building an international PhD community in Hungary and create a secure network for the PhD candidates. We will address issues of particular concern to international students, such as integrity, language barriers, mental health, cultural differences and the Stipendium Hungaricum programme.
We are committed to support you in organising cultural-scientific events with participants from Hungarians and interested parties from your country. We are building bridges between the two countries with the help of the embassies, universities, scientific institutions and other interested parties. The Association supports DOSZ ambassadors in their ambassadorial duties, in skills and competence development through workshops and trainings. DOSZ would like to involve international PhD Candidates in a more inclusive way to its scientific departments and its events, such as Spring Wind Conference in May, DOSZFEST in August and Milestone Conference in October. How can you apply?
If you feel the passion for joining our community and for being an active representative of your country’s young scientists, fill out the online application form and attach your professional CV, and motivation letter. In your letter of motivation explain shortly your goals, motivations, your intercultural and Hungarian connections, your experience in volunteering, advocacy, communication and in other organisations, and your connection with DOSZ, if you had any. The deadline for the application is 15 March 2023.

After the first-round selection we are going to invite the applicants for a second round online interview. Please note, among the applicants, one person is going to be chosen at the end of the selection process from each country from where DOSZ has received applications.
Applicants are going to be informed about the results of the selection process by the 25th of April. DOSZ Ambassadors are going to be nominated officially by the 5th-7th of May 2023, during the Spring Wind Conference.
