Introduction:
I am Dr. Szilvia Pásztory-Kovács, a research associate at the Department of Zoology. At the department, I teach and organize the subjects Current Issues in Biology, Population Genetics and Evolutionary Biology and Field Practice I for the BSc students. I hold an Article Reading Seminar course for Master’s students. My current area of research interest is population genetics and population dynamics of birds of prey.
Main research areas:
- Analysis of long-term ringing data series of songbirds using statistical methods
- Statistical sex determination and validation of birds based on morphological marks using molecular methods
- Population genetics and phylogeography of the bald eagle, hatching and breeding dispersal movements
- Examination of the food composition of the bald eagle in Hungary in the last 40 years
- Population viability analysis (PVA) of the bald eagle population in the Carpathian basin
- Estimating the survival of breeding birds in the bald eagle
- Estimation of kin avoidance and inbreeding in bald eagles
- Analysis of the reliability of the non-invasive sampling method in population dynamics studies of birds of prey
- Hybridization of the prairie eagle and the desert eagle
