The general objective of the course:
The Zoo Gardening elective equips future veterinarians, biologists, and zoologists with many of the essential knowledge and practical skills needed to work with wild animals in modern zoological institutions. The course introduces key principles of zoo management, zoo animal welfare. Students learn the fundamentals of zoo history, animal husbandry, species conservation efforts, collection management, research, and zoo‑education. The curriculum covers the best zoo standards and practices. In the second semester, the course provides insight into how zoos and zoo exhibits and other facilities are established, designed, operated, and developed, and how zoos participate in international networks that support conservation, breeding programs, and scientific collaboration.

Dates of the three blocks of lessons in the 1st semester:
26 September, 17 October, 21 November, three Saturdays between 9:15 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
(Similar structure in the 2nd semester: two Saturday mornings plus one full Saturday study trip in the Spring 2027)
Értékelés leírása
To obtain the credit, an independent exam task must be completed. Following detailed instructions, students prepare a presentation based on their independent research and present it in class during the third subject block. There is no further test or oral exam.
