Béla Tormay (1839 – 1906)

Professor of Animal Husbandry.

He was a pioneer of modern animal breeding in Hungary. He initiated a national animal register; organized breed shows and introduced breed registry, stud books and pedigrees. He was the greatest reformer of Hungarian agricultural education, and the author of several textbooks and informative articles.

He was the director of this institution; later he became State Secretary of the Department of Animal Husbandry in the Hungarian Ministry of Agriculture, Industry and Commerce. He was a corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
