Chemist, a professor of chemistry.
As a pioneer of physical chemistry, most of his achievements were related to this discipline. He discovered the first galvanic cell where the cell reaction was endothermic. He studied the velocity of chemical reactions and chemical balance conditions. His research in reaction kinetics brought him international recognition. In cooperation with Leo Liebermann, he established that proteins were amphoteric.
He was elected by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences as a corresponding member.
