Lajos Thanhoffer (1843 – 1909)

 

Physician, a professor of physiology, histology, physical science and chemistry.

His scientific activity was primarily focused on histology. He was a specialist in comparative histology, neurohistology and histotechnology. He is respected as the pioneering expert of adapting microsurgical methods in Hungary. His books on microscopes and techniques applied in histotechnology spearheaded the progress of the discipline in Hungary.

He served as the deputy director of the Hungarian Royal Institute for Veterinary Medicine for several years. He was elected by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences as a corresponding member.
