Vilmos Zlamál (1803-1886)

A doctor and veterinarian, leader of the Department of Animal Medicine of the Medical Faculty, national chief veterinarian („Regni Veternarius”), he established the independent Hungarian animal health system.

The 40 years of his activity as a teacher and professor meant a momentous era in the history of Hungarian veterinary education and veterinary science.

His scientific research was focused on the prevention and eradication of epidemic animal diseases – first and foremost, oriental rinderpest.

He was a corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
